Easter. A powerful moment in time. One man. A cross. Agony. Torture. Blood spilled. The ultimate suffering. The ultimate redemption. Easter demonstrates above all Christian holidays the goodness of God toward his creation.
Yet we still doubt. We still don't trust. We still don't believe God is good. Why? Because we use the lens of our human experience to judge him.
How about you, what are you believing about God this Easter? Do you believe he is good? How about when bad things happen? I suppose that depends on how we’re defining good doesn’t it?
Sometimes our definition of good is radically different from God’s. For us, good generally means our story has a happy ending. When it doesn’t, we’re left feeling, confused, abandoned and angry at God. Just like Eve was deceived by the serpent, we too may be tempted to believe lies about God’s goodness and character---to be fooled into making our feelings about him into facts. The problem is--- what we think and feel about God has little to do with the truth.
Somewhere along the line you and I have decided some things about God. Those things have impacted how we perceive him---and how we receive from him. But consider this: instead of letting your feelings determine what you believe about God, try letting his word help you decide. Search the scriptures, read the stories, and examine what you learn about his heart. Remember the cross. Get to know the God man. Consider how God delights in you this Easter by mediating on Zephaniah 3:17
"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."
